Buckle up for a short session learning about environmental stressors. There’s stressors to boating you say? You bet your life there are!
Everyday life is full of environmental stressors that cause minor irritations. And while many of them blow right by us that we don’t really give much thought to, such simple notions as thinking about all we have to do to get ready the night before going sailing can seriously affect the quality of our sleep. That night of bad rest combined with the anticipation along with such things as wind, sun and hot temperatures, noise, motion, vibration and glare all combine to reduce our ability to make good decisions. Even worse, the situation can even affect our ability to physically see what’s directly in front of us! Add a failure to maintain adequate hydration along with the consumption of beverages that contain alcohol and you could be setting yourself and those you care about up for a very bad day on the water.
We’re going to watch a brief video produced by the National Safe Boating Council through a Coast Guard grant that demonstrates just what can happen, and how it happens when we don’t adequately take care of ourselves while boating. We’ll then talk about the things we can do collectively and individually to ensure that we keep a good day on the water good!
Don’t miss it!
