Cinco de Mayo
May 8-9, 2021
Get ready for the big cruise. We are actually going to cruise somewhere. We hope to go to Humbug Cove on the far north extremes of the Lake for Cinco de Mayo. This time of year, with high water there is a whole new world up there, it is beautiful. The club in years gone by had a number of great Cinco sunflower raft ups in Humbug. We are putting out the word early to begin getting boats signed up. We need at least 15 boats to do the sunflower configuration and we're gettin' close
The dates are Saturday May 8-Sunday May 9th. We are planning on bringing back some of the great Cinco traditions, salsa and contests and a Mexican dinner.
Please sign up and post "Event Comments" at the link above. Lets get ready to party!
The Education Page on our website has articles on anchoring and rafting and specifically on how to create a Sunflower Raft.
The Lake Pleasant Map is on our website for reference.
Lets all sign up, we need to fill out that sunflower.
Head past Dear Cove (Formally Porta Potti cove) North and cross the Aqua Fria River then past North Barker Island on your left to the entrance to Humbug Bay. There are several no wake buoys on the West side of the entrance channel. Continue North probably ¾ of a mile. There will be some cliffs/hills on your right. When you come to a cut in the cliff, you will have arrived at the passage into the meadow. I call it Hole in the Wall. Head East through the cut until you enter the Meadow where you will find a beautiful place for a large raft up. This time of year there is an average of about 12 feet of water in the meadow. Bring your dingy to help with forming the sunflower, and there is a lot to explore.
Allow plenty of time to get up there as we will start rafting up at 3PM. Please be on time, we’ll close the sunflower by 4PM. If we are short for the sunflower we will raft up in a line as usual.
Then its party time. We will have a salsa contest so all you chef’s get your best recipes together. Dinner will be Mexican food of course. We will be contacting participants who have registered to determine what you will be bringing food wise. So it is important that you register on the website
Signups look good so far, we need to get to 15 boats to make this happen big.
