    "Arizona Weather:  What drives it?"

This event is Open to the public.  Please Register so we and the restaurant will know how many to expect.

Join us tonight for Nancy J. Selover, Ph.D., the State Climatologist for Arizona since 2007, to explain the factors that influence our weather in Arizona, including temperature, humidity, wind, and precipitation.  Since we have a desert climate, aren’t we always in a drought?  What do we expect in the next 10-20 years?  Dr. Selover will have some data from the Lake Pleasant area to discuss specific conditions there, including wind – since it’s significant for sailing.

    About The Climatologist

Dr. Nancy J. Selover grew up in Michigan and then the San Francisco Bay area before moving to Phoenix in 1973.

After changing careers from Technical Theater to Geography/Climatology in the late 1980s, Nancy received her BS, MA, and PhD degrees in Geography/Climatology from Arizona State University.

Nancy’s main interests are field study, instrumentation, and urban climate, and she has intensively studied the climate and evaporation rates of urban lakes.

Come in early between 6 and 7 and enjoy good food, drink and the camaraderie of fellow sailors at this no-host event.

Exploring the Yacht Delivery Circuit and the Path to a Captain’s License

Have you ever dreamed of sailing across big blue oceans? What about being in total command of your own vessel for a vacation to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the South Pacific, or other areas of the world?  Or getting paid to drive a charter boat for someone as a captain or crew? It’s all possible with a little planning and a sense of adventure.

Deb and  Capt. Emory Heisler will share photos and stories of all the "Fun" they had during their Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 Atlantic Coast to Caribbean (and back, and back, and back again) sailboat delivery and sailing adventures.  Newport, RI.  City Island, NY. Chesapeake Bay. The Bahamas.  Florida.  Puerto Rico.  BVIs.  Bermuda…and back.  Together they sailed over 5000 nm in 6 months on OTHER PEOPLE'S BOATS.  Emory will also share his experience and guidance about the USCG Captain's licensing process.  It's sure to be both fun and informative.

The LPSC Guest Sail event, “where sailors meet sailors”, is open to the public with and without boats to promote:

    . the sport/hobby of sailing
. introduce potential members to our club

. and to provide sailing opportunities for our currently ‘boatless’ LPSC members

Non-Member BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat): If you have your own sail or power boat, come join us to see what you are missing.

If you don’t have a boat, LPSC host skippers are making room on their boats for “new” crew to experience sailing on Lake Pleasant. Space is limited and priority will be given to those who have not had the chance to sail with us before.

Tentative start time 11:00 am. This could change slightly based on wind conditions. All participants will meet at Pleasant Harbor Marina in front of Dillon's. LPSC members are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes early to help us greet our non-member guests.

After we assign non-boaters to boats, we will set out for a couple hours of sailing and then plan either to raft up or return to the marina for a social hour.

We cannot offer these events without members willing to participate as a host boat skipper. If you would like to help us by attending as a host boat skipper, please sign up.

Note: Registration opens on Nov 23 and ends on Dec 3
